I am now in Le Mans for what will be my first race of the year and I couldn’t be more excited. The history and atmosphere here is magical and it is definitely one of my favorite events.

 

In preparation for the race I tested at Monza last Tuesday. I have been to this track for GP2 races with Sergio Perez and also for Formula One but I had never actually driven there. It is also an historical place and I was very enthused about this opportunity.

 

It was a good test. I was able to get up to speed quite quickly. Monza has long, fast corners and you run very low downforce. We were not using the first chicane that Formula One uses to try to simulate the Le Mans circuit as much as possible. I was able to drive in the dry and the wet, as we had some showers in the afternoon, and felt comfortable in both conditions with competitive times compared to my teammates.

 

Obviously, we are still in the process of developing the AMR-One and every time we test it gets better. The amount of miles I have had is still limited but it is the same for all of us. At least I am now comfortable in the car with my seat position. There are just little things that myself and my teammates Harold Primat and Andy Meyrick need to work on this week in Le Mans, and we will also have plenty of time to practice pit stops and driver changes which we haven’t been able to do.

 

For Le Mans, my expectations are to finish. This is my second year with the team and I feel much more comfortable. I know the mechanics, the engineers and my teammates quite well now, even though Andy is new. The team has been working extremely hard and they have been flat out since Day One when they started drawing this car. I take my hat off to them because they are giving it their all.

 

This race is going to be difficult for us but if we can finish, that would be a tremendous accomplishment for a new development program. I am not sure where we will be from a competitive standpoint, but every time we get onto the track the car is getting better and better. We also have more development pieces coming this week. The more miles we do, the more they can push the envelope to improve.

 

Today is Sunday and we came today to do our Scrutineering and the media day with the press in downtown Le Mans. I have had a little bit of a cold the last two weeks and I hope it gets better. The weather is not looking too good with some rain forecast most days this week including today.

 

In all, I am excited to get on this track – which I really love – and I hope we can get a surprise for Aston Martin and everybody at Lowe’s this weekend.
